The House of Trenel was created by Claude-Henri Trenel in 1928. Thanks to André Trénel, his son, it has become a real and respected reference in all good restaurants, whether in France or abroad.
The successors of André Trénel have kept the same specific products and the same quality requirements. Hervé de Boissieu manages Trénel, assisted by Bruno Chambe, nephew of André Trénel. The wines and liqueurs are still developed today in their functional buildings at Charnay-lès-Mâcon. Here, modern and efficient equipment perpetuates the tradition and reputation of their House.
Located at the extreme north-west of Beaujolais area, bordered on its South by the Chénas Cru area and on its north-east by the Saint Amour Cru area, the Juliénas Cru area lies on the hinge between two kingdoms: Beaujolais Gamay and Mâcon Chardonnay. This cru is based around the village named after Julius Caesar. The wines made from this area are noted for their richness and spicy with aromas reminiscent of peonies. In contrast to the claims of Régnié, Juliénas growers believe that this area was the site of the first vineyards planted in Beaujolais by the Romans during this conquest of Gaul.
Trenel’s Julienas is a selection of old vine cuvées which come from the single vineyards of “les Mouilles” and “le Trêve”. The Julienas has a lively red color with violet highlights. The nose has fruity (red currant, raspberry, strawberry) and floral aromas (violet). The mouth is delicate. A touch of vivacity mingles with fine and elegant tannins. The finish leaves a very pleasant aromatic impression. It is advised to serve this wine around 57° F to 59°F. It goes very well with “Coq au vin” (poultry cooked in wine), game, and cheese
