Grosset

This is very much in the style of the very best 'Polish Hill' Rieslings. It appears so tightly coiled, that its release of some lime juice aroma is restrained; likewise, the flavours of zesty limes squeezed over quartzy minerals is evident but austere. There's the characteristic tight, lean, steely structure holding in layer after layer of flavour, impeccable balance, and mighty yet controlled power. The hints are there of future promise: a vibrance, a youthful zestiness, an intensity of flavour all subjugated at present. That refreshing, lingering bone dry finish, too, is uncompromising.

Wine Spectator

Crisp and vibrant, this is a steely Riesling, with a ramrod backbone that lets the sparks fly from the floral pear, apple and melon flavors, which linger extensively on the citrusy finish. Best from 2009 through 2016.

Score: 92. —Harvey Steiman, September 30, 2007.

Wine Enthusiast

In blind tastings of young wines such as we do for these reviews, the ultimate heights certain wines may achieve can be hard to discern. Such is the case for Grosset’s Polish Hill Riesling, a wine that impresses for its power and clarity at this age, but clearly has much more to give. Floral and mineral notes open, followed by strident apple and lime flavors. It’s zingy, bold and intense—impressive now, but try to give it at least five years to see how badly this rating underestimates its apogee.

Score: 90. —Joe Czerwinski, June 01, 2007.

Wine Advocate

The 2006 Dry Riesling “Polish Hill” offers similar aromatics but has a more austere personality. It has outstanding grip and intensity but is tightly wound at the present. It will certainly live for 10+ years but how much pleasure this intellectually styled Riesling might eventually deliver only time will tell.

Score: 89. —Jay Miller, October 2007.
