BISCI, MARCHES, ITALY
The Marche wine region is one of Italy’s last untouched wine regions and is sandwiched between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea. Although it has been producing wines which create both interest and excitement, the region still flies beneath the “popularity” radar. Le Marche is bordered by both Tuscany and Umbria to the west and the Adriatic Sea to its right. Le Marche is a beautiful wine producing region, with miles of untamed coastline, picturesque fishing villages, medieval hamlets and mountain villages. The most important wine towns include its capital Ancona, Matelica, and Conero. Like its more famous neighbors Tuscany and Umbria, Le Marche boasts Mediterranean green like Cyprus trees, olive trees and vines spread across a hilly landscape. The calcareous soils here, like those to the west, have proven excellent for varieties like Sangiovese, Trebbiano, Verdicchio and Montepulciano. Most of the wine made in Le Marche is white, with the crisp and fresh Verdicchio varietal being the star. Although Verdicchio had long been seen as a lesser variety, the work being done by several producers are bringing a new-found depth and personality to the region's most popular white wine. There are different types of Verdicchio- Verdicchio Castelli di Jesi and Verdicchio di Matelica, Castelli di Jesi being more prevalent.

BISCI, VERDICCHIO di METELICA, 2010, MARCHES, ITALY
The color of this wine, which is made from 100% Verdicchio is a pale straw- green color tinted with yellow... It is quite aromatic with intense white flowers and green apples on the nose. On the palate, it is focused, beautifully balanced and loaded with off-dry fruitiness. It finishes with a slight hint of bitter almond. It pairs well with fresh cheeses and seafood dishes. The approximate age of the vines here are 30 years old, which makes for a really complex sip.
