Wine Enthusiast

Benjamin Romeo makes nothing but big, idiosyncratic wines. And some are big hits while others may not be your thing. This modern, round, polished blend is creamy and smooth but also loaded with almond, pear, citrus and toast flavors. Certainly there's a strong wood element, but it handles it with aplomb and oozes class. Drink as soon as possible. It won't age much past 2007. Only 25 cases made.

Score: 92. —Michael Schachner, September 01, 2007.

Wine Advocate

There are 300 bottles of the 2004 Cacareaba for the United States market. A blend of Grenache and two white grapes, Viura and Malvasia, fermented in French oak barrels and aged 8 months in new French wood, it exhibits lovely blueberry, espresso roast, and black cherry liqueur aromas, superb ripeness, medium to full body, an excellent texture, and a long finish. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.

Score: 91. —Robert Parker, August 2006.

Wine Spectator

Broad and firm, this big white offers coconut, lanolin, almond, pear and tobacco notes, with a creamy texture and clean underlying acidity. A bit blunt, but has depth and balance. Makes an impact. Drink now through 2010. 25 cases imported.

Score: 90. —Thomas Matthews, July 31, 2007.
